Born in Boston, Massachusetts and a resident of Queens, New York, Yamira Serret is a dry media artist who uses pen and colored pencil on an intimate scale. She received her BA in Art and the History of Art from Amherst College in 2013 where she was introduced to Buddhist philosophy and culture. A combination of her study of esoteric thought and her life-long introspective wanderings in dream work undergirds the conceptualizations of Serret’s art while her imagery is sourced from nature itself — from flora to fauna, micro to macro. In her career, she has collaborated with experimental musicians and looks forward to collaborating with more minds as she moves into the tradition of tattooing.
Yamira is informed by the time eternal themes of human experience: love, loss, the search for truth, and transformation. Her work employs figuration of fauna and flora in surreal arrangements both delicate and unforgiving. Each piece is a testament to her considerable restraint and precision. Through her art, Yamira seeks to reveal the rapture we can feel in what can seem like the rupture in our lives.
